GE VMIVME-4116 Resolution Analog Output Board
The VMIVME-4116 is designed to provide precise analog output capabilities. It is an essential component in many industrial control and data acquisition systems. It acts as a bridge between digital control systems and analog drive devices, allowing seamless signal conversion and output.
Product Introduction
The VMIVME-4116 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) board performs digital-to-analog conversion on 16-bit true offset binary or twos complement words with an analog output range of -10 to +10 V. This provides 305 µV resolution for each digital input for a 1 LSB change. The buffered output voltage settles to within 1/2 LSB in 10 µs. The DAC provides a digital-to-analog integrated circuit (IC) for each channel. The control and status register (CSR) is loaded by the processor, which controls the functionality of the board. The processor can read the CSR at any time. The functional block diagram of the VMIVME-4116 board is shown in Figure 1. Each of the eight DACs is preceded by a double buffered data latch. The data latch allows the DAC analog output to be updated in a variety of ways.
Analog Output Specifications
Resolution: It provides excellent resolution and is able to convert digital signals to analog voltages with high accuracy. High resolution capabilities are critical for applications that require fine control of analog signals. For example, in precision manufacturing processes, it can precisely control the voltage supplied to a servo motor for accurate positioning.
Output Range: The -10V to +10V output range provides flexibility for powering a wide range of analog devices. This range is useful for applications such as driving audio amplifiers, where different voltage levels are required to control the amplitude of the output signal.
Stability: The buffer output voltage is stable within 10μs to 1/2LSB (least significant bit). This fast settling time ensures that the output analog signal quickly reaches and maintains the desired value, minimizing fluctuations and errors. This stability feature is important in a laboratory environment when experiments such as electrochemical measurements require precise and stable voltage signals.
Connections and Interfaces
Output Connectors: High-reliability DIN-type output connectors ensure stable signal transmission and reliable connections. These connectors are designed to withstand harsh industrial environments such as factory floors where vibration, dust, and temperature fluctuations may be present. They provide a secure connection for the output lines that transmit the analog signal to the end-user - the user's device.
Test Interface: The P2 connector on the board has multiple programmable outputs for testing the analog outputs. This self-test feature simplifies the process of verifying the functionality of the board during installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting. Engineers can use this test interface to quickly identify any potential problems with the analog output channels without the need for complex external test equipment.
Overall Applications and Benefits
GE VMIVME - 4116 Resolution Analog Output Board is widely used in a variety of fields, including industrial automation, process control, and test and measurement. It combines high-resolution analog output, flexible data control, and reliable connectivity, making it a valuable tool for engineers and technicians who need to generate precise and stable analog signals in their systems.
