The S2K Series is a family of high performance, stand-alone brushless servo or stepper motor amplifiers with integrated motion controllers and user-configurable I/O capabilities.

Controllers are available in models configured for resolver or serial encoder motors with

feedback. Encoder-based S2K servo models are only for use with GE Fanuc S-Series

(SLM, SDM or SGM) servo motors. S2K resolver feedback servo controllers utilize GE Fanuc MTR-Series (3N, 3S or 3T) servo motors or third-party motors with appropriately configured

ratings and resolver specifications. Consult factory for control of non-GE Fanuc motors.

Servo models support 0.84–478 in-lbs (0.095–54 Nm) of continuous stall torque, while stepper models support 144–3.074 oz-in (16.3–21.7 Nm) of holding torque. Servo controller models include four 230 VAC rated at 4.3, 7.2, 16. and 28 amps continuous and two 460 VAC rated at 7.2 and 20 amps continuous (460 VAC models only with resolver feedback). Peak current for 230 VAC servo models is two times the continuous rating, while 460 VAC servo models are 1.5 times the continuous rating. Stepper controllers are rated at 5 amps. Models supporting DeviceNet™ or PROFIBUS communications include 14 discrete I/O points. The 4.3 and 7.2 amp servo and stepper models also feature

21 I/O points instead of DeviceNet or PROFIBUS communications. All drives are

capable of supporting Modbus/RTU protocol. If the optional Modbus adapter

(Catalog No. IC800MBUSADP) is used, the standard RS-232 serial port can be used for

multi-drop applications. This adapter is an externally mounted multi-drop RS-232 to RS485 serial port converter.

The S2K Series controllers are optimized for GE Fanuc S Series or MTR Series servo and stepper motors.

Overloads can occur and damage components

If the motor and amplifier are not matched correctly, the motor will not operate properly. Tables 1-1 through 1-3 show

recommended component pairings.

The S2K Series stepper controllers require a single-phase 115 VAC power source. S2K Series

Servo controller models rated at 230 VAC and 4.3 or 7.2 amps are designed to operate at 115 VAC single-phase or 230 VAC three-phase, while all other models are three-phase

input. 230 and 460 VAC models are designed to operate with three-phase

but can be used with single-phase power.

S-Series servo motors optimized for use with S2K Series controllers include

30 W to 5 kW, rated at full speed at 230 VAC. Use of 115 VAC power will result in

operation at speeds reduced to approximately half rated speed.

30 to 1,000 Watt S-Series Servo Motors (SLM models only), MTR-3S, and MTR-3N

Series All stepper motor models feature standard NEMA shaft and flange designs

Mounting configurations allow for easy mounting to off-the-shelf reducers and couplings.

The 750 Watt S Series motors feature an oversized shaft diameter (0.625 in.)

NEMA 34 mount to handle the model's peak torque rating.

S Series motor models from 1 to 5 kW (except the SLM100 1kW motor) and all MTR-3T Series motors

have metric mounting configurations.

All servo motors are available with optional 24 VDC holding brakes. These brakes are

spring-set, electrically released models designed to hold stationary loads. The user

must provide a separate 24 VDC brake power supply. 30-750 Watt S Series motors

have a pigtail cable with box-style connectors for motor power, encoder, and brake

connections. 1.000 to 5.000 Watt S Series motors feature MS-style connectors, and

brake power (when required) is integrated with the motor power connection on a common

connector/cable. MTR Series servo motors include an MS-type connector for brake power

MTR-3N, MTR-3T Series brake motors use the same cable as the brake power and motor power. MTR-3S brake motors require a separate brake power cable (CBL-30-BT).

S2K Series controllers are configured and programmed using Motion Developer PC software.
