GE VMIVME - 4140 is a high-performance analog output board developed by General Electric (GE). Product Introduction

The VMIVME-4140 Analog Output Board provides 32 high quality analog output channels with 12-bit resolution, capable of sourcing or sinking 10 mA at ±10 V.

Each output has a dedicated D/A converter (DAC).

The analog outputs can be disconnected from the field wiring for off-line testing. Calibration and self-test are initiated by a VMEbus system reset or by executing a software command.

During calibration, a table of offset and gain coefficients is compiled and stored in RAM. Each of the 32 channels configured in six output voltage ranges has an associated offset and gain.

Self-Test: A self-test is automatically run after a system reset.

The self-test register indicates success or failure and can indicate which channel failed.

Front Panel Status LED: The LED turns on after a system reset. The LED turns off after a successful self-test and auto-calibration. The LED can also be turned on or off under software control.

Front Panel Reference Voltage Access: An isolated BNC connector on the front panel allows access to the internal reference voltage. Reference voltage adjustments are made on the front panel.

Calibration: When auto-calibration is initiated by system reset or software command, the embedded DSP loads the calibration output value into each output DAC and then reads it back to the DSP via the 16-bit ADC.

This process is repeated until a sufficient number of calibration points are measured. Correction tables consisting of offset and gain corrections for 32 outputs in six voltage ranges are compiled and stored in RAM.

These correction coefficients are called every time an output is changed.

System Reset: After a system reset, all outputs are in offline mode, all control registers are in default states, self-test is initiated, and auto-calibration is initiated.

Board Address: The VMEbus base address is set by . One Jumper for Each Address Addresses A31 through A7 each have one jumper;

The board occupies 128 consecutive bytes of address space.

VMEbus Compliant: Address modifier bits are selected and decoded via jumpers to support non-privileged, supervisory, and non-privileged or supervisory board access.

Output Data Transfer: Output data is stored in 32 16-bit registers. The board can be configured via software to accept binary or offset binary data.

Output changes can be initiated via register access, but the outputs are double buffered, which allows all channels to be updated synchronously via software or external triggers.
