Product Introduction
The 12HFA51A42H is a multi-contact auxiliary relay module manufactured and designed by General Electric for use in GE Speedtronic control systems. HFASl relays are momentary, hinged armature, multi-contact, auxiliary relays. They have six (6) electrically independent contact circuits suitable for circuit opening or circuit closing applications. This arrangement allows multiple operations to be performed simultaneously. HFASl relays are available in front or rear connection. Front connection relays are suitable for surface mounting only. Rear connection relays are suitable for mounting on steel flanges, where a cover is required.
The HFA51A relay is a self-resetting relay with a momentary de-energizing feature. The HFASlB relay is manually reset with a plunger assembly mounted through a transparent cover.
The HFASlS is similar to the HFASlA except that the (b) contact in position 3 is used with an external resistor to obtain an 8 millisecond pick-up time for high speed operation. The resistor 1s is carried by the (b) contact until the relay picks up. When the relay is picked up, (b) the contacts open and place the resistor in series with the relay coil.
Unless relays are ordered with a specific contact arrangement, they are shipped with six circuit closure contacts (code 60), except for the HFA51S, which is shipped with code 01 contacts. Code 01 is available only with the HFA51S. The HFASlS is not available with codes 51 and 60.
The coils of the HFASlA, HFASlB, and HFA51P relays are rated for standard voltages up to 575 volts at 25, 50, or 60 cycles, up to and including 250 VDC. The HFASlS relays are rated for DC voltages up to and including 250 VDC.
The HFA type relays are intended to be mounted on a vertical surface. Outline and panel drilling diagrams are shown in Figures 5, 6, and 7. Surface mounting on steel panels requires insulating sleeves for each terminal.
