The IS220PTURH1A is a main turbine-specific master trip pack that is part of the General Electric Speedtronic Mark VIe gas turbine control. This assembly connects the turbine control terminal block to one or two Ethernet networks via an electrical interface. The output of this pack is routed via a DC-62 pin connection connected to the terminal block. The IS220PTURH1A has a black housing with holes for air circulation. The front of this box has various LED indicators, and an infrared receiver (IR port). This port is not used by this pack. The CPU board, a second board dedicated to turbine control, and an analog acquisition auxiliary board are all mounted in this box.
The TTURH1C terminal block is used to mount the battery pack. Two 10/100 Ethernet ports, flash memory, RAM, a read-only chip for identification, an internal temperature sensor, and reset circuitry are located on the processor board.
The IS220PTURH1A has an auto-reconfiguration feature that automatically downloads from the controller to the I/O pack. The base load, bootloader, firmware, and settings are reconfigured. This only occurs when auto-reconfiguration is enabled. The component editor in the Toolbox ST program can enable or disable this feature.
The IS220PTURH1A has four passive magnetic speed inputs. Circuit sensitivity can detect 2-RPM rotating gear speed to see if the turbine has stopped rotating (turbine stopped). The neutral speed signal of this group is used for speed control as well as the primary overspeed trip signal.
The IS220PPROH1A is a backup turbine protection (PPRO) I/O pack developed by GE. The backup turbine protection (PPRO) I/O pack and associated terminal boards provide an independent backup overspeed protection system as well as a backup check for generator synchronization to the common bus. They also act as independent watchdogs for the master control. Three Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) PPRO I/O packs mounted on separate Simplex Protection (SPRO) terminal boards or three PPROs mounted on a TMR TPROH#C terminal board form a typical protection system. Each SPRO or TPROH#C is connected to a designated emergency trip board via a cable with DC-37 pin connections at both ends:
TREG stands for Gas Turbine Emergency Trip Terminal Board.
TREL: Large Steam Turbine Emergency Trip Terminal Board
TRES: Small to Medium Steam Turbine Emergency Trip Terminal Board
Different configurations place three PPRO I/O packs directly on the TREA for a single-board TMR protection system. For IONet communications with the control module, the PPRO includes Ethernet connectivity.
Functional Description
The I/O pack contains two Ethernet ports, a power supply, a local processor, and a data acquisition board. This design simplifies or eliminates much of the instrumentation previously required to connect field devices, while increasing operational reliability and reducing long-term maintenance costs.
The IS220PPROH1A is for aero-derivative turbine emergency trip applications and is typically used with a TREAH terminal block. The component can be connected to either a barrier-type or box-type terminal block. For voltage sensing, the component has field wiring restrictions that limit cable length to 1,000 feet of 18 AWG wiring. The component cannot automatically reconfigure when switching from a BPPB P-Pack to a BPPC P-Pack.
The front panel of the component is labeled with the component ID number and a number of LED indicators. They are arranged in pairs on the front panel. PWR/ATTN is the first pair, LINK/TxRx and ENET 1 are the second pair, and LINK/TxRx and ENET2 are the third pair. The last component is the IR port, which is located on the bottom of the panel.
The component is equipped with a high-speed processor and two fully independent 10/100 Ethernet ports. A hardware reset circuit and watchdog timer are also included in the kit. A built-in sensor tracks temperature.
Compatibility
The PPRO I/O Pack contains one of the following compatible BPPx processor boards:
The PPROH1A is equipped with a BPPB processor board.
The PPROS1B contains a functionally compatible BPPC processor board that is compatible with ControlST Software Suite V04.07 and higher.
Simple Master
The Mark VIe Control Trip Board TRES supports simplex backup protection.
The controller IONet has one PPRO network port.
All Mark VIe Control Backup Trip Boards, TREG, TREL, TREA, and TRES, have TMR backup protection. In this setup, each I/O Pack is connected to a different (R, S, T) controller network.
Triple Master
Backup protection (2 out of 3 operation) is supported when using TMR Master. All Mark VIe Control Backup Trip Boards (TREG, TREL, TREA, and TRES) support this setup. In a standard network configuration, the first PPRO I/O pack connects to the R network, the second PPRO connects to the S network, and the third PPRO connects to the T network.
The IS220PTURH1A is a component created by GE for its Mark VI system. The Mark VI is one of the final Speedtronic systems released by GE for gas/steam turbine management.
The IS220PTURH1A is a main trip pack specific to the main turbine. This component provides an electrical interface between the turbine control terminal board and one or two Ethernet networks. The output of this pack is through a DC-62 pin connector connected to the associated terminal board.
The IS220PTURH1A comes in a black housing with air flow ports. The front of this housing has multiple LED indicators, as well as an IR (infrared port). This port is not used in this pack. Inside this housing, there is a processor board, a second board specific to turbine control, and an analog acquisition auxiliary board. The battery pack mounts to the TTURH1C terminal board. The processor board has two 10/100 Ethernet ports, flash and RAM, a read-only chip for identification, an internal temperature sensor, and a reset circuit.
The IS220PTURH1A allows for automatic reconfiguration, which is automatically downloaded from the controller to the I/O pack. The reconfiguration includes base load, pilot load, firmware, and parameters. Automatic reconfiguration must be enabled for this to occur. This can be enabled or disabled in the Toolbox ST application through the component editor.
The IS220PTURH1A has an interface with four passive magnetic speed inputs. Circuit sensitivity can detect 2-RPM turn gear speed to determine if the turbine has dropped to zero speed (turbine stopped). The mid-speed signal on the battery pack is used for speed control and the primary overspeed trip signal. If you need more information, refer to the manual or data sheet provided by the manufacturer.
The power distribution feedback board IS220PPDAH1A is part of the Mark VIe series produced by General Electric. This board is part of the Power Distribution Module and in this configuration it will provide feedback on ground fault detection, bulk power health, power bus voltage and branch circuit status. This model is capable of full system feedback and monitoring which sets it apart from standard power distribution methods. Note that while this model provides feedback for the branch circuits, the branch circuits are not directly connected to the PPDA battery pack.
Another key feature of the IS220PPDAH1A board is that it allows corrective action to be taken by sending and reporting information, but it cannot take indicative protective action. The board supports system maintenance by sending timely information to the PDM. The PPDA board can receive feedback from up to six PDM components, most of which are JPDx boards and will host PPDA I/O packages.
The IS220PPDAH1A board uses the electronic ID to determine the power distribution information which is then used to populate the IONet outputs and provide the correct information and feedback to the connected boards.
Please note that when the IS220PPDAH1A board is used to read 240 volt AC, it should not be cross-connected with DC; when this occurs, the peak voltage will exceed the MOV rating and cause failure. Since most AC power supplies must be run on a grounded neutral, failure will occur.
