About the IS220PSCAH1A
The IS220PSCAH1A I/O package is used for serial Modbus communications. This package was designed by General Electric for the Mark VIeS control system. When this package is used, it can provide an interface between up to two input and output Ethernet networks and a serial communications board. The board has six individually configurable serial transceiver channels that can be used for RS485 half-duplex, RS232, and RS422 standards. The inputs required to power the PSCA package are sent through the three-pin power input and dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors.
There is a serial Modbus master service on the IS220PSCAH1A package that has many different features, some of which are listed below:
Remote Terminal
Data Bits: Seven, Eight
32-bit Data Word Sequence
Parity: Even, None, Odd
Station Address
These features are used for the six configurable ports on the PSCA package. Configuration can be done at the port level. With the PSCA, the two Ethernet ports on the pack can be used to help support the Ethernet Modbus Master protocol; note that this configuration will only occur when used on a simplex network.
The IS220PSCAH1A pack has the ability to perform self-diagnostic tests, one of which is monitoring the analog inputs which monitor position and pressure to check for configurable high and low levels. Limits are used to enable and disable functions, latching/unlatching, and generating alarms. Some of the alarms that may appear include 32-67, 114-119, 108-113, and 72-107. All of these alarms indicate different errors.
The IS220PSCAH1A pack has a serial Modbus Master service with a variety of different functions. These functions are used for the six configurable ports on the PSCA pack. Configuration can be done at the port level. Using the PSCA, the two Ethernet ports on the pack can be used to help support the Ethernet Modbus Master protocol; however, this configuration can only be made when used on a simplex network
The IS220PSCAH1BD is a Serial Modbus Communications I/O module manufactured and designed by General Electric and is part of the Mark VIe series used in distributed control systems. The Serial Modbus Communications Input/Output (PSCA) pack provides an electrical interface between one or two I/O Ethernet networks and a serial communications terminal block. The pack contains a processor board common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and a serial communications board. The communications board contains six serial transceiver channels, each of which can be individually configured to conform to RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 half-duplex standards. Inputs to the pack are through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a three-pin power input. Outputs are through a DC-62 pin connector that interfaces directly with the associated terminal block connector. One of the Ethernet ports can be used to support Ethernet Modbus communications on a simplex network. Visual diagnostics are provided through indicator LEDs.
Mounting:
The battery pack is mechanically secured using a threaded insert adjacent to the Ethernet port. The insert connects to a mounting bracket specific to the terminal block type. The bracket should be positioned so that the DC-62 pin connector between the battery pack and the terminal block is not subjected to right angle forces. Only one adjustment is required during the life of the product.
One or two Ethernet cables are plugged in, depending on the system configuration. The assembly will operate through either port. If dual connections are used, standard practice is to connect ENET1 to the network associated with the R controller, however, the PSCA is not sensitive to Ethernet connections and will negotiate proper operation through either port.
Power is applied to the battery pack by plugging into the connector on the side of the battery pack. There is no need to remove power before plugging in the cables, as the I/O battery pack has an inherent soft-start feature that controls the current surge at power-up.
Features:
Serial Transceiver Channels: The communications board within the kit is equipped with six serial transceiver channels, each of which can be individually configured to conform to RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 half-duplex standards. This flexibility allows for seamless integration with a wide variety of devices and communications protocols, enhancing interoperability within the system.
Input and Output Connections: Input to the battery pack is achieved through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a three-pin power input, providing easy access to network connectivity and power. Output is made through a DC-62 pin connector, establishing a direct connection with the associated terminal strip connector, ensuring efficient data transfer between components.
Ethernet Modbus Communication Support: One of the Ethernet ports integrated into the kit can be used to support Ethernet Modbus communication on a simplex network. This feature enables efficient data exchange and communication between devices using the Modbus protocol, thereby enhancing system connectivity and interoperability.
Visual and Local Diagnostic Capabilities: Visual diagnostics are provided through LED indicators, providing real-time feedback on the operating status and performance of the PSCA package. In addition, local diagnostic serial communication is available through the infrared port, providing easy access to diagnostic information and troubleshooting functions, ensuring the reliability and integrity of the communication process.
Applications of the Kit: Suitable for a variety of industrial environments where reliable and efficient communication between serial devices and Ethernet is critical. It is typically used in power generation control systems, industrial automation, and process control applications, where seamless integration and interoperability are critical to achieve optimal system performance.
